Uwajima Updates: Shifting Winds

As September begins, the air in the early mornings and evenings feels a little cooler. A hint of autumn. It’s also a time when our bodies easily lose balance after the heat of summer. A reminder: take care of your health. When the winds shift, so do we.

This month also brings a big shift in the world of Tokusatsu. On Sunday, September 7th, the new show Kamen Rider Z premieres. For the first time in the history of the franchise, it will be officially streamed overseas. The broadcast regions include the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, and even the Middle East. Most likely through platforms like YouTube. A truly historic step.

The Super Sentai series has long been known abroad as Power Rangers. Ultraman was among the first to embrace online distribution, making it possible for fans worldwide to watch together. And now, Kamen Rider joins them. Japanese pop culture continues to spread globally. A real shifting of winds.

But winds are shifting in another way too. For CSTOYS, the U.S. market is vital. However, with the end of the “De Minimis Rule”—which had exempted imports under $800 from duties—Japan Post suspended international shipments to the U.S. on August 27th. Suddenly, packages stopped moving. A heavy blow for us and our customers. We are now searching for alternative shipping routes. Another test, another change in the winds of global distribution.

Closer to home, on August 31st, Uwajima held its mayoral election. New leadership has emerged. And though not everyone could win, every candidate carried the same wish: to build a better future for Uwajima. A powerful message of commitment. I hope all of them, regardless of the results, will continue contributing their vision. With both new and experienced voices working together, Uwajima will continue to update itself. Another shifting of winds.

When the wind changes, so does the air, the atmosphere, and the people. Autumn is the season for learning and new challenges. Catch the new breeze. Move forward toward your goals.

9月に入り、朝夕の空気に涼しさを感じるようになりました。秋の匂い。夏の疲れが出やすく、体がバテやすい季節でもあります。体調管理が大切です。風が変わる時に合わせて、心も体も変わっていく。そんな時期です。

そしてこの9月、特撮の世界でも大きな変化があります。9月7日（日）から新番組「仮面ライダーZ」がスタート。シリーズ史上初めて公式に海外配信が行われます。対象はアメリカ、カナダ、香港、韓国、台湾、ベトナム、そして中東地域。YouTubeなどを通じたストリーミング配信。これまでになかった歴史的な一歩です。

スーパー戦隊は「パワーレンジャー」として20年以上前から海外で知られてきました。ウルトラマンも早くからネット配信を始め、世界中の人が同時に楽しめるようになっています。そして今回ついに仮面ライダーも加わります。日本のポップカルチャーがさらに広がる瞬間。まさに Shifting Winds。風の変化です。

一方で、流通の世界でも大きな変化が起きました。CSTOYSにとって重要なアメリカ市場。しかし7月30日、トランプ大統領が発表した政策により、800ドル以下の輸入品が免税となる「デミニミスルール」が廃止。これを受けて8月27日から日本郵便は米国向けの国際郵便を休止しました。突然止まった物流。大きな打撃です。現在は代替ルートを模索中。2005年に始めた事業が20年を迎える中で、再び新たな風に直面しています。

さらに、8月31日には宇和島市長選挙が行われました。新しいリーダーが誕生。惜しくも当選できなかった候補者も含め、全員が「宇和島の未来を良くしたい」という思いで挑戦しました。立派な戦い。定数に限りがある以上、全員が当選することはできませんが、その思いは未来に必ず生きるはずです。新しい人材と経験豊かな人材。力を合わせて進む宇和島。これもまた“風が変わる時”です。

風が変わる時は、空気も、雰囲気も、人も変わります。秋。学びと挑戦にふさわしい季節です。新しい風をつかんで、自分の目標に向かって歩んでいきましょう。
