Important Update for EU Customers: New Customs Duty Rules from July 1, 2026

Masaki Seike

Starting July 1, 2026, the European Union has changed its customs rules for low-value imported goods. Until June 30, 2026, many parcels valued at €150 or less could enter the EU without customs duty. From July 1, 2026, that exemption no longer applies.

This change affects many international online orders shipped from outside the EU, including orders sent from Japan to customers in EU member countries.

At CSTOYS International, we will continue to ship to the EU where shipping services are available, but EU customers should understand that import costs may increase.

What Has Changed?

From July 1, 2026, low-value imported goods valued at €150 or less may be subject to a temporary customs duty. This is separate from VAT, carrier handling fees, or other import-related charges that may already apply in your country.

In simple terms:

  • EU customers may see additional customs charges on imported orders.
  • These charges are decided by EU customs rules and local import procedures.
  • The final amount may depend on the item, customs classification, order value, destination country, and carrier handling process.

This applies whether the item is brand new, pre-owned, collectible, or vintage.

How CSTOYS Will Handle EU Orders

CSTOYS International will continue to prepare EU shipments with accurate customs information.

For EU-bound orders, we will:

  • Declare the actual purchase value of the items.
  • Describe the products accurately as toys, collectibles, hobby goods, or related items.
  • Use appropriate customs information based on the product type.
  • Include required order and shipping information for customs processing.
  • Avoid false declarations, undervaluing, or marking commercial orders as gifts.

We understand that import costs are an important part of your buying decision. However, customs duties, VAT, carrier handling fees, and other local import charges are controlled by customs authorities and shipping carriers, not by CSTOYS International.

Are Import Duties Included at Checkout?

Unless clearly stated at checkout, EU import duties, VAT, customs fees, and carrier handling charges are NOT included in the product price or shipping fee paid to CSTOYS International.

These charges may be collected by the carrier, postal service, or customs authority before delivery.

Please check your country’s import rules before placing an order, especially for higher-value items or combined orders.

Should EU Customers Still Order from CSTOYS?

Yes, EU customers may still order from CSTOYS International where shipping service is available.

However, we ask EU customers to consider the total landed cost before ordering. This means:

Item price

  • International shipping
  • VAT
  • Customs duty
  • Carrier or postal handling fee
= Estimated total cost to receive the item

This is especially important for small orders, because the new customs duty may make low-value purchases less economical than before.

About Pre-Owned and Collector Items

Many CSTOYS products are pre-owned Japanese tokusatsu toys and collector items. Even when an item is old, discontinued, opened, or sold as a collector’s item, it may still be treated as an imported product by EU customs.

The customs process does not necessarily distinguish between a newly manufactured toy and a pre-owned collectible in the way collectors do. EU import rules may still apply.

Refused Deliveries and Returned Parcels

Please do not refuse delivery only because import charges are requested.

If a parcel is refused, returned, abandoned, or not collected, the shipment may generate return shipping fees, carrier fees, customs processing costs, or loss of the parcel. In such cases, any refund will be reviewed according to our store policy and the actual costs charged to CSTOYS International.

If you are unsure about import charges, please check before placing your order.

Our Position

CSTOYS International will continue to serve EU collectors as responsibly as possible.

Our policy is simple:

  • We will ship with accurate customs declarations.
  • We will not undervalue orders.
  • We will not mark commercial orders as gifts.
  • We will keep product and shipping information as clear as possible.
  • We will update our EU shipping guidance if customs procedures change again.

We know this change may make international collecting more expensive for EU customers. At the same time, accurate customs handling is necessary for legal and stable international shipping.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of CSTOYS International.
