伝統から生まれる新しい味わい ― 「絹茶」
先日、伊予鉄高島屋の地下1階食品売場で開催された「愛媛うまいものフェア」に出かけ、長年の友人である松山ご夫妻に久しぶりにお会いしました。お二人は現在、野村町で養蚕農家として活動し、桑の葉から作る「絹茶」の生産を手がけています。
松山さんはもともと真珠養殖の普及に携わっていましたが、約10年前に養蚕へと転身。現在は数少ない養蚕農家の一人として「愛媛シルク工房」を立ち上げ、地域に新しい価値を生み出しています。その挑戦の一つが、桑の葉を使ったお茶「絹茶」です。
今回試飲させていただいたのは「柚子粉末入り絹茶」。さわやかな香りとすっきりとした後味が特徴で、和菓子との相性も抜群です。伝統産業である養蚕と、新しい商品開発を組み合わせた取り組みは、まさに「伝統から生まれる新しい味わい」と言えるでしょう。
現在「絹茶」はオンライン販売も始まり、今後さらに多くの方に届けられていく予定です。番組にもゲストとしてぜひお招きし、挑戦の歩みを直接お話しいただきたいと思っています。

New Flavors from Tradition – The “Silk Tea” of the Matsuyama Family
Recently, I visited the Ehime Umaimono Fair held at the basement food section of Iyotetsu Takashimaya. There, I was delighted to meet my longtime friends, the Matsuyama couple, after quite some time. Today, they are active as sericulture farmers in Nomura Town, producing Silk Tea made from mulberry leaves.
Mr. Matsuyama originally worked in the pearl cultivation industry, but about ten years ago, he made a bold career shift to sericulture. Now, as one of the few sericulture farmers still remaining, he established Ehime Silk Studio and has been creating new value for the region. One of his signature initiatives is producing Silk Tea from mulberry leaves.
At the fair, I had the chance to taste their Silk Tea with yuzu powder. Its refreshing aroma and clean aftertaste make it a perfect match with traditional Japanese sweets. This innovative product represents a beautiful fusion of tradition and creativity—a true “new flavor born from tradition.”
Today, Silk Tea is also available online, and it is expected to reach an even wider audience in the future. I look forward to inviting the Matsuyamas as guests on this program to hear more about their journey and challenges firsthand.
Their attitude—preserving tradition while exploring new possibilities—is a vital force for carrying regional culture into the future. In each cup, one can taste both the pride of history and the promise of new beginnings.
